What's the point of living past the age of 50? Why do people that age strain themselves financially just so they can live a decade or two more? How do people in their 50s feel about their lives, generally?
That’s three questions, you know. Let’s take them one by one:
- What's the point of living past the age of 50? Living to 60, I would say. And 70, 80, 90… why not?
- Why do people that age strain themselves financially just so they can live a decade or two more? I’m not straining. If at any time in my life, I had enough money it was now. And that income continues to go up with increasing seniority and experience, so clearly, if financial strain is what you dread, better hang in there, it gets easier over time.
- How do people in their 50s feel about their lives, generally? I’ve never been better than at 50. I am healthier, stronger, calmer, more capable, better liked, better organised, and generally happier than I ever was before. The thing about spending time on stuff is that you get better at it, and that applies to life, too.
Here, me at 50. May there be another five decades.
